Cedar House

Curated by Alexander Fan and held at Blank Gallery between July 21 - August 07, 2023.

Cedar House is a multifaceted exhibition where the spirit of Japan comes alive. Cedar House invites you to step into an oasis of timeless beauty and immerse yourself in the elegance and tranquility of traditional Japanese artistry from the fine joinery of antiques, the patient artistry of Bonsai and Ikebana and a collection of the traditional woodblock printing art form of Ukiyo-e.

As you enter, the rich aroma of tatami mats fills the air, evoking a sense of warmth and homeliness. The interior is adorned with Japanese antiquities, carefully curated to showcase the remarkable craftsmanship and heritage of the country. Intricate lacquerware, ornate fabrics, and delicate porcelain pottery are tastefully displayed.

Wandering through the showroom, you will encounter a dedicated space showcasing an exquisite collection of bonsai trees, ikebana and floral arrangements. These living works of art, meticulously cared for, embody the harmony between nature and human cultivation.  Vibrant blooms are skillfully arranged with precision and grace, expressing the beauty of simplicity and balance.

Across another corner a carefully curated selection of the traditional woodblock printing art form of Ukiyo-e is displayed with works that date older than 100 years.

The Cedar House Showroom invites you to experience the harmony of past and present, where the old world gracefully meets the new, and where the beauty of Japanese antiques, bonsai, ikebana and Ukiyo-e takes center stage.

At the end of the workshop, attendees take home a pure soy wax candle in a Japanese ceramic pot.
